Overview

Subscription SaaS MVP is the foundation every subscription product needs: sign-up and login, Stripe-powered plans and billing, per-plan usage limits, a customer billing portal, and an onboarding flow — all wired together and deployed.

It is built for founders who want to validate a paid product fast without spending weeks rebuilding auth and billing plumbing. You bring the core feature; this provides everything around it.

The problem

Most of the effort in a new SaaS goes into the same undifferentiated plumbing — auth, billing, plan limits, dashboards. Rebuilding that for every idea wastes weeks. This starter ships it correctly so you can focus on the feature that makes your product unique.

Who it's for

  • Founders launching a subscription (recurring-revenue) product.
  • Indie hackers who want auth and billing done right from day one.
  • Teams validating a paid MVP before investing in a full build.

Features

Authentication

Secure sign-up, login, and session handling with password and social options.

Stripe subscription billing

Plans, checkout, upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations handled through Stripe with webhooks kept in sync.

Usage limits per plan

Each plan enforces its own limits, so free and paid tiers behave differently and upgrades unlock more.

Billing portal

Customers manage their subscription, payment method, and invoices through Stripe's portal.

User dashboard & onboarding

A logged-in dashboard and a guided first-run onboarding get users to value quickly.

User stories

  • As a founder, I want auth and billing ready so that I can focus on my core feature.
  • As a user, I want to subscribe and manage my plan so that I control my billing.
  • As a business, I want plan usage limits so that free and paid tiers differ meaningfully.
  • As a new user, I want onboarding so that I understand the product quickly.

User flow

  1. 1

The user creates an account and lands on a guided onboarding.

  2. 2

    Choose a plan

The user selects a plan and subscribes through Stripe checkout.

  3. 3

    Use within limits

The dashboard enforces the plan's usage limits and prompts upgrades when needed.

  4. 4

    Manage billing

The user updates their plan or payment method through the billing portal.

Architecture

A Next.js application with Supabase for auth and data and Stripe for subscriptions. Stripe webhooks keep subscription state in the database, so plan and usage checks are always based on the source of truth.

Usage limits are enforced server-side per plan, so tier differences and upgrade gates cannot be bypassed from the client.

The codebase is structured so your unique feature slots into an already-working shell of auth, billing, and dashboard.

FAQ

Is the billing production-ready?

Yes. Stripe subscriptions are wired with webhooks so plan status stays accurate through upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations.

Can I add my own feature on top?

Yes. The starter is structured as a working shell so your unique feature slots straight in.

Are usage limits enforced securely?

Yes. Limits are checked server-side per plan, so they cannot be bypassed from the client.

Which payment methods are supported?

Whatever Stripe supports in your region, including cards and local methods.
